Modern Languages Day: 4th July 2006

Bonjour!

On a hot 4th July 2006, children and staff from five local schools - St Joseph's, Ribby-with Wrea, The Willows, Weeton St Micheal's and Wesham C of E - came to Weeton School for the day so we could all celebrate our learning of modern languages.

The day began with magnificent music and marches from the Light Division Band...

It wasn't long before the Band had a new conductor...

Then we all split up into groups and went off to

different activities - from singing to treasure trails,

puppet-making to boules.

Here we are tasting food from different countries.

The food was kindly provided by our local Sainsbury's.

Lots of delicious bread, cheese and fruit...

Some of us had games of boules and croquet.

The weather was perfect...

Meanwhile, in the hall, we flew off to Spain

and tried some flamenco dancing...

Some of us tried a painting technique called pointillism -

that's creating a picture using dots of colour...

Lots of us drew self portraits on calico to form

six large banners - one for each school.

We added some greetings in different languages...

Just a few spaces left on this banner...

After a picnic lunch, we acted out a French

version of Three Billy Goats Gruff

The bridge (le pont) in Woodland Walk was the ideal place...

Here's the nasty old Troll...

At the end of a brilliant day, we gathered in the hall

to share some of the things we had done.

We sang two songs in Italian and showed everyone our banners...

We had made new friends from different schools,

spoke and sang in different languages

and had lots of fun.

We just didn't want the day to end.

Au revoir!
