Weeton Primary School: Providing effective learning opportunities for all pupils.

Mr C J Horrocks

I'm the Headteacher of Weeton Primary School.

I started teaching in 1975.  I first came to Weeton School in 1989 as the Deputy Headteacher; it was my third school.  I've been the Headteacher since 1995.  The school has really changed and developed over the years.  We have a very hardworking staff who know the children well and work together as a great creative team.

We regard ourselves as a school family: children, staff and governors.  As many of our pupils are from service families, children are coming and going all the time. We had a change of regiment at Weeton during the summer 2007, so lots of new children joined us and we also had to say goodbye to many of our families. We also have some children from the local area, so we have a happy mix of cultures, backgrounds and accents.

A browse through at our Guestbook will give you some idea of what it means to be part of the Weeton School family; and it doesn't end when children (or staff) move on.

I'm a great fan of the artist L S Lowry.  On 24th July 1973, when I was at college, I was lucky enough to meet Mr Lowry at his home, The Elms.  It was a memorable day.

Some years ago, we had a Lowry Week at Weeton School.  The children did lots of painting and drawing based on Lowry's work; we invited some local clog dancers into school (they almost ruined the floor in the hall!) and we ended the week by coming to school as Lowry characters.  We were delighted when Lowry's biographer, Shelley Rohde*, joined us for the day.  Guess who I was!

* Shelley Rohde has published a new book: "L S Lowry A Life"
