Weeton RAF County School - as our school was first called - opened on 20th February 1958. The first Headteacher was Mr Evans and his Deputy Headteacher was Miss Jenkinson. You can see them in the picture on the right.
127 children started school on that first day in 1958.
Since then there have been four headteachers at Weeton School: Mr Evans, Mr Wilson, Mr Barton and Mr Horrocks - and 4715 pupils!

Miss Jenkinson, Mrs Duckworth, Mr Evans and Mr Horrocks: together for the first time to celebrate the school's 40th birthday in 1998. |
| Here's an extract from the Log Book (a diary kept by the headteacher) from 16th June 1959:
School illegally entered during the week-end. Pencils, First Aid Plasters, two boxes of pen nibs and four arrows removed, but recovered in Air Raid Shelter next to the school. Camp and Civil Police informed. Detectives from Kirkham called at lunch time. And on 26th June:
Civil Police spoke to several children in school.
There was more crime to come at Weeton School the following year on 23rd May 1960:
Monday afternoon at approx. 2.05pm the headmaster discovered money 6/10½d missing from the tin in the cupboard in the staffroom. He informed the Police and the child's mother, whom he thought was the culprit. The child denied any knowledge of it. The money was found by the headmaster on Tuesday morning, hidden in a toilet cistern. And then on 30th May:
Kirkham Police telephoned to say the child had admitted to the theft...
Some children were very keen on football in the 1960s.
Here's an extract from 6th March 1961:
Philip and Stephen C. and Martin B. played truant on Monday afternoon. It was later discovered that the three of them had gone to Burnley to see a football match the following evening. At 4am on Tuesday 7th they phoned the police in Burnley and gave themselves up. They returned to school on Wednesday morning, none the worse for their escapade, but very subdued.
As the early 1960s went by, new children and staff came and eventually moved on.
Nearly 7 years after the school had opened, the entry in the Log Book on 22nd December 1965 tells us that it was Mr Evans' last day as Headteacher of Weeton School.
Weeton RAF County School needed a new Headteacher.
And so on 3rd May 1965, Mr Wilson became the second Headteacher of Weeton School.
At that time, there were 79 children in the school, divided into 4 classes.
When the school reopened for the Autumn Term in 1965, a new regiment arrived and there were 63 children on roll.
There was a nasty moment for one boy on 14th September that year:
Michael D. bitten by dog on playground. No damage done. Incident reported to RAF Officer in Charge with request to take action re dog. Weeton Camp remained an RAF base until 1965 when the army arrived for the first time.
And it was time for the school to have a new name.
On January 31st 1966: It was recommended at the Managers' meeting held today that the name of the school be changed to Weeton County Primary School. Mr Wilson had to give up his headship in early 1978. For a few months, the school was without a headteacher. Interviews were held for the new headteacher. Mr Barton, from a forces school in Germany, was appointed. He became the third headteacher of Weeton School in September 1978. At that time the school came together in one building for the first time. More like the school we have today. Here's an item from 2nd October 1967: Mr Horrocks, County Music Adviser, called to discuss Musical activities. Our present Headteacher, Mr Horrocks (no relation to the above Mr Horrocks), became the school's fourth Headteacher in 1995. Before that he had been the school's Deputy Headteacher. Mrs Duckworth became the school's new Deputy Head in 1996. In 1999, the school had to change its name to Weeton Primary School. In 2005, Mrs Duckworth moved on to a school in Chorley. Mrs Elletson became the new Deputy Headteacher in September 2005. The school's longest serving teacher, Mrs Ranson, left Weeton in February 2006, to start a new life in East Anglia. She had been a teacher at Weeton for 27 years. Amongst those who attended Mrs Ranson's farewell assembly were Miss Jenkinson and Mrs Cookson, the school's first and second Deputy Headteachers.
