19 Oct 2006 - Farewell Assembly for Dads
On a rainy morning, the whole school set off to the army gym for a special assembly. We wanted to say farewell to all the dads who were off to Iraq. A few dads had to go earlier.
Dads, mums and younger brothers and sisters were entertained by each class, as they sang their "Songs for Sean" once again. The staff sang their song too -"Consider Yourself". We were delighted that Sean was able to join us, as he'd missed hearing the songs last week.
After prayers led by Padre Colin Butler, twelve children held up some letters, which made up three simple words: Good Luck, Dads.
Some of our families were then interviewed by a reporter from the Blackpool Gazette; a photographer took some pictures for the article. Olivia from Year 2 was excited at the thought of having her picture "in a magazine"!
Then it was back to school (still raining), and some of our dads called in during the day to plant bulbs - crocuses, daffodils and tulips - with us in the school grounds.
The sun came out after lunch, and we started to look forward to next spring - when the bulbs will be in flower and our dads will be coming home again.
